Always On: Continuous Compliance: Three Models, One Deadline
Clarity for payroll. Confidence for what’s next.
The debate the profession is actually having
When we interviewed twenty senior payroll leaders for our 2026 Payroll Leadership Series, no topic divided them more sharply than continuous compliance.
One argued that compliance has to be continuous by design, checked as work happens rather than confirmed after the fact. Another held that continuity is a discipline, not a frequency, and that a rigorous audit cadence run properly delivers the same assurance. A third saw the answer in structured post-cycle review, with assurance built into the rhythm of each pay period rather than running constantly alongside it.
Three experienced leaders. Three genuinely different answers. And one conclusion none of them disputed.
Passive compliance is no longer an option.
Why this matters now
Intentional wage underpayment has been a criminal offence since 1 January 2025. The Fair Work Ombudsman recovered $358 million in back payments in 2024-25 alone, and more than $2 billion over five years.
Meanwhile, 65.3% of payroll professionals told us poor or incomplete data entering their systems is their single biggest operational risk, nearly double the 2025 figure. Only 36.4% of organisations track payroll KPIs regularly.
The risk environment has moved faster than the control environment. This session is about closing that gap.

What continuous compliance actually means
As an operating model and where the language ends and the practice begins.

The three delivery models leaders are choosing between
Continuous by design, disciplined audit cadence, and structured post-cycle assurance and what each genuinely demands to run well.
↳ Roundtable discussion: Which of the three is your team actually running, and is it working?
Why upstream data quality determines whether any compliance model works
And how to make that an enterprise conversation, not just a payroll one.
↳ Roundtable discussion: Whose problem is bad data, payroll's, or the business's?
How leading functions build the governance evidence that secures investment
Accuracy rates, exception trends, and remediation outcomes.
↳ Roundtable discussion: What evidence would convince your board that payroll compliance is under control?
What boards are starting to ask
And what payroll leaders need ready before they ask it.
↳ Roundtable discussion: If your board asked today, could you answer with confidence?
Who Should Attend

On realising that his dream job of professional football player for Dundee United wasn't going to fit with his immigration plans from Scotland to Australia, payroll was the obvious next step (naturally).
With a strong background in payroll technology and professional services, Ross leads APA as CEO, driving our national service and delivery teams with a focus on excellence, innovation and genuinely great customer experiences. He’s passionate about raising the bar and occasionally reminding us that if things had gone differently, he’d be on the pitch, not in the boardroom.
